Terri_CC_IMG_1393Terri_CC_IMG_1369Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome ran away Saturday with another Derby – Del Mar’s Grade I Hollywood Derby – enhancing his chances for top 3-year-old and Horse of the Year.

The Southern California-based chestnut colt won his first race on the turf before an enthusiastic crowd that sent him off as the 7 to 10 favorite.

Fans crowded Del Mar’s paddock — with some waiting for hours — to catch a glimpse of the California-bred son of Lucky Pulpit. One of his owners, Steve Coburn, waved with both hands to what seemed to be a California Chrome fan club meeting.

The fans weren’t disappointed, cheering as California Chrome finished about two lengths in front of the filly, Lexie Lou, and four other horses.
