California Chrome ran away Saturday with another Derby

Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome ran away Saturday with another Derby – Del Mar’s Grade I Hollywood Derby – enhancing his chances for top 3-year-old and Horse of the Year.
The Southern California-based chestnut colt won his first race on the turf before an enthusiastic crowd that sent him off as the 7 to 10 favorite.
Fans crowded Del Mar’s paddock — with some waiting for hours — to catch a glimpse of the California-bred son of Lucky Pulpit. One of his owners, Steve Coburn, waved with both hands to what seemed to be a California Chrome fan club meeting.
The fans weren’t disappointed, cheering as California Chrome finished about two lengths in front of the filly, Lexie Lou, and four other horses.
Just an observation: As said the HRTV announcer–other than Lexie Lou, Chrome had no real competition. Like when Funny Cide won the Wadsworth Memorial at Finger Lakes on July 4, 2007.
