There’s Still “Gold” in California

Bill_TalkoftheTrack_3_x_0007Yes, there is gold in California, but it shines like Chrome. Oh my, what a horse. Was it in the pedigree, well no? Did he cost a lot of money, well no? Did he have a big high profile trainer, well no? Who were the owners, nobody knew, and yet they won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness with favorite “California Chrome”. The favorite has only won the derby 3 times since 1980. No problem, He was a fan favorite for the Preakness but the pro’s all had other ideas. So is he going back home to California? Oh no, he’s going to the Big Apple for the Belmont stakes June 7th.

An $8,000 first time mare, Love the Chase, $2,500 to breed to an unknown stallion, Lucky Pulpit and what do you get, a wonder horse and maybe the next Triple Crown Winner, California Chrome. A large, competitive contingent of challengers is expected to face California Chrome when he attempts to become thoroughbred racing’s 12th Triple Crown winner in the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes on June 7 at Belmont Park.

Looks like GOLD to me!
