Four Legendary Jockeys in Saratoga on September 23rd:
Autograph Signing and Exhibition Harness Race on Tap
Saratoga Springs, New York—Across Nelson Avenue from the renowned Saratoga Race Course lies a second, historic (horse) race track. The Saratoga Raceway has raced Standardbreds since 1941—and in 2017, three Standardbreds will have the opportunity to test the mettle of three of the most-renowned jockeys in the history of Thoroughbred racing.
The 2017 Thoroughbred race meet is over, but four of the sport’s greatest jockeys have a jones to power down to the wire with a horse under beautiful Saratoga autumnal skies. So, on September 23—Triple Crown jockeys, Jean Cruguet and Steve Cauthen, along with Saratoga favorite, Angel Cordero, Jr., will drive—not ride—Standardbreds, in an exhibition harness race at the Raceway.
This symbolic crossing of Nelson Avenue from the trio’s comfort zone at the Saratoga Race Course to the Raceway will be the highlight of Saturday’s All-Star Sports Festival at Saratoga Hotel and Casino. First post will be at 6:45 that evening, and the jockeys’ exhibition harness race will take place after the second race on the card.
Athletes from several sports will be on-hand all day from 9AM, until the end of the harness races in the evening. Athletic heroes will participate in an All-Star brunch; an exhibition softball game; live music; food trucks and an Autograph and Memorabilia Show from 1:30PM – 5PM.
The three legendary jockeys, along with the inimitable Triple Crown-winning jockey, Ron Turcotte—who piloted Meadow Stables’ Riva Ridge and Secretariat during their record-breaking campaigns—will join Cruguet, Cauthen and Cordero, Jr. at the Autograph session in the afternoon.
